Martin Velits (born February 21, 1985 in Bratislava ) is a former Slovak cyclist . He is the twin brother of Peter Velits , who was also a cyclist.

Career

After Martin Velits became the Slovak U23 individual time trial champion in 2004 , he began his international career in 2004 with the Slovak cycling team Dukla Trenčín Merida . In 2005 Velits drove for the South African Continental Team Konica Minolta . In his first season there he won a stage at the Giro del Capo and was national champion of the U23 road races . In 2006 he repeated his victory at the Slovak U23 time trial championships. He received his first contract with a Professional Continental Team in 2007 with his twin brother at Wiesenhof-Felt and his first contract in 2008 with a ProTeam , the German Team Milram . In 2009 he became Slovak elite champion in road racing and in 2010 in time trial.

He ended his sporting career at the end of the 2017 season.
