Martin Zindal († after May 10, 1356) was canon and 1334-1337 Elekt of Warmia .

Life

Martin probably came from Zindal in Silesia . About his career is only known that he had a master's degree and on March 27, 1329 as provost of the Wenden monastery of Pope Johannes XXII. received a benefice in Breslau . Since the beginning of 1330 he is documented as canon of Warmia. In March d. J. he was commissioned by the clergy of Kulm and Pommerellen to obtain a deferment for the payment of St. Peter's penny from the papal collector Peter von Auvergne in Krakow . In 1338 and 1339 he traveled to Warsaw and Vienna on behalf of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order , Dietrich von Altenburg , where he was supposed to negotiate because of the disputes between the Teutonic Order and Poland.

At the urging of the Teutonic Order, Martin Zindal was elected as his successor by the cathedral chapter after the death of Ermland bishop Heinrich II. Wogenap in 1334. However, the Riga bishop Friedrich von Pernstein , to whose church province Warmia belonged, refused to confirm it. Thereupon Pope Benedict XII urged him . for resignation and lent Warmia in 1337 to Hermann von Prague .

From 1334 to 1350 Martin Zindal was pastor of Elbing . On behalf of Grand Master Ludolf König von Wattzau , he accompanied the Order General Procurator to the papal court in Avignon in 1342 . He was last mentioned on May 10, 1356 as Canon of Warmia. Dates of his death and place of burial are unknown.
