Carolena Carstens (born January 18, 1996 in Glen Ellyn , Illinois ) is a Panamanian Taekwondoin . It starts in the weight class up to 49 kilograms.

Carstens came to Taekwondo through kickboxing at the age of four . She is a US citizen and Panamanian and trains with Eric Laurin in Jacksonville . Carstens competed in her first international competition in 2011. At the Junior Pan American Championships in Las Vegas she reached the final and won the silver medal, in the adult division she surprisingly reached the quarter-finals at the World Championships in Gyeongju , but lost to Rukiye Yıldırım .

In November 2011, Carstens lost the decisive battle for third place at the Pan-American Olympic qualification tournament in Santiago de Querétaro in the weight category up to 49 kilograms and narrowly missed qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games in London . However , she received a wildcard from the World Taekwondo Federation for participation. In London she was the youngest participant in Taekwondo and came seventh in her weight class.
