Zumpft became a professional tennis player at the age of 18. He played mostly on the ATP Challenger Tour over the course of his career . He achieved his first success in 1991 in Bangalore , where he reached the double finals with Brit Sean Cole . He then played on the ATP Satellite Tour until he again achieved notable successes in Challenger tournaments in 1993. In 1994 he won his first double title on the ATP Challenger Tour with his compatriot Martin Sinner in Bombay , his second and last double title followed the following year in Singapore . Also in 1995 he achieved his best result on the ATP World Tour with the semi-finals in San Marino alongside Bill Behrens . He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1996 with position 268 in singles and 1995 with position 147 in doubles. He was never able to qualify for a Grand Slam tournament. He played for the Rochusclub in the tennis Bundesliga .
After the end of his professional career, Zumpft became a tennis coach. First he worked at Nick Bollettieri's tennis camp, where he worked with many later top players, including Martina Hingis and Tommy Haas . He then worked as a freelance trainer and looked after Mary Pierce , among others .
