Martina Kaiser (born November 6, 1961 in Saarburg ) is a German gallery owner with a focus on contemporary art .

Life

Her activity in the art market began in 1997 in the "Kunsthaus" in Cologne's Apostelnstrasse. The Kunsthaus, run by the German curator and art agent Reiner Opoku , functioned until 2002 as a novel concept of an art store in which selected originals, graphics, editions and ready-mades by artists such as Pablo Picasso , Robert Rauschenberg , Roy Liechtenstein , Mel Ramos , Sigmar Polke and Julian Schnabel were driven away.

After the Kunsthaus closed in 2003, Kaiser advanced to become an independent art dealer with the first gallery locations in St. Apernstrasse and Albertusstrasse, where she resided in the former rooms of Rudolf Zwirner . In 2011 she took over the gallery space from Paul Maenz at Bismarckstrasse 50. This is where the Martina Kaiser gallery is now, which focuses on contemporary art .

Martina Kaiser is the mother of three children and lives in the Rhineland.

Martina Kaiser celebrated the opening of the gallery under her name in November 2011 with works by the photo artist and film producer Michael Souvignier .

Initially the focus was primarily on young artists and graduates of the Düsseldorf Art Academy , the portfolio has been expanded over time and now increasingly includes international positions, including a. by Zhuang Hong Yi , Jiři Georg Dokoupil , Julian Schnabel , Umberto Ciceri , Aljoscha and Werner Klotz . Martina Kaiser also dedicated solo exhibitions to artists who were largely responsible for the history of art in the Rhineland, such as Daniel Spoerri , Otto Piene and Martin Noël .

Kaiser is also committed to increasing the relevance and visibility of women on the art market. That is why she regularly initiates group exhibitions with artists, such as in 2013 with Rosemarie Trockel , Karin Kneffel and Sabine Moritz or in 2018 with Leiko Ikemura , Katharina Jahnke and Sabine Moritz. Other exhibitions presented positions by Cornelia Schleime , Ingeborg zu Schleswig-Holstein and Johanna Wiens .

The Galerie Martina Kaiser cooperates for external exhibitions and art events and the like. a. with KölnKongress and DJE Kapital .

In 2018 she initiated Zhuang Hong Yi's first solo exhibition in a museum in Germany, for which she was able to win the Museum Ulm .

Together with the architect Claudia Pannhausen and the former cathedral builder Barbara Schock-Werner , Martina Kaiser is committed to the restoration and repair of the sculpture "Light and Movement" by Otto Piene , which is exhibited in public space in Cologne's Hohe Straße.

Since 2018 she has been a member of the board of "Cologne Galleries".
