Martino Gamper

Martino Gamper (* 1971 in Merano ) is an Italian designer who has lived and worked in London since 1998 .

Life

Gamper completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter and then studied in Vienna , where he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . He then worked for a short time in Milan and then went to London. He worked for the British furniture company Ercol .

In 2007 Gamper became internationally known for his project 100 Chairs in 100 Days and its 100 Ways, which he started in 2005 . To do this, he used 100 pieces of furniture that were thrown in the bulky waste and assembled them in new combinations. The project was first shown in London, then went to the 2009 Milan Triennial, and was finally exhibited at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco , California in late 2010 . In 2011 he designed the public passage area in the Museion in Bolzano , which can also be used by the residents of the city and visitors for private purposes and is open until 10 p.m. in the evening.

Gamper is a tutor at the Royal College of Art in London.
