Martinskirche (Frauenzimmern)

The Martinskirche in Frauenzimmern is the Protestant parish church of the Frauenzimmern parish . It was built in its current form in the second half of the 13th century, but has since been rebuilt and expanded several times.
history
The church goes back to the original church of the place, which probably already existed as a wooden church when the place was first mentioned in 794. The patronage of St. Martin supports this assumption. A first stone building was probably built in the 9th century, which, according to archaeological findings, was followed by a second stone church before the current church building was built. In 1234 Pope Gregory IX confirmed . the donation of the patronage right of the church by Walter von Lauffen to the Cyriakus pen in Frauenzimmern, founded by the gentlemen of Magenheim .
In its current form, the church was built in the second half of the 13th century. According to a building inscription, the church was renovated as early as 1309, possibly in connection with the transfer of the patronage rights to the Cistercian monastery , which was built in the meantime and whose inhabitants gave the place, originally just Zimmer , its name in the course of the 14th century, but which was then moved to Kirbachtal in 1442 .
In the 14th century, Württemberg finally gained control of the place, and in the 15th century also of the monastery. As everywhere in Württemberg, the Reformation was carried out in women in the 16th century . The first reformatory-minded pastor at the church was Balthasar Reichenberger from Wittenberg in 1535 .
In 1769 the church was extensively renovated, with a new sacristy being built on the south side. In addition, new windows were broken in the north and south sides as well as in the tower and a new pulpit and a new organ were installed. In 1842 the organ was replaced by a new instrument. In 1865 the church was renovated again. Another renovation took place in 1911, during which many baroque fixtures were removed, so that the Romanesque character of the building came to light again. In 1971 the church was renovated again, during which the evangelist symbols in the choir vault were exposed and the entire furnishings of the pulpit, altar, gallery etc. were renewed. In 1993 a new organ was purchased.
On the outside wall of the church is the epitaph for Jörg Enzberger († 1606), who as Hofmeier managed the estate in women's rooms and to whom several important buildings of the place go back.
Bells
The oldest bell documented for the Martinskirche was cast by Bernhart Lachaman in Heilbronn in 1497 . In 1865 the church received two new bells from the Bachert bell foundry in Kochendorf ( Bad Friedrichshall ). The bells had the chimes cis' 'and a' with a weight of 200 and 450 kg respectively. In 1905 the peace bell , which was also cast by Bachert, was added as the third bell with the strike note f sharp ', a diameter of 108 cm and a weight of 600 kg. The two bells from 1865 had to be delivered during the First World War. In 1921 the church received two new bells from the Heinrich Kurtz foundry in Stuttgart through a donation from C. Louis Berger in Boston, whose mother was born in Frauenzimmern . The larger of the two had the strike tone a ', a diameter of 90 cm and a weight of 450 kg, the smaller one had the strike tone c sharp' ', a diameter of 73 cm and a weight of 235 kg. During World War II, the peace bell from 1905 and the larger of the two bells from 1921 were melted down. When three new bells from Bachert were put into operation in Heilbronn in 1949, the remaining old bell from 1921 was sold. It now serves as a baptismal bell for the Protestant church in Notzingen . Today's three-bell chime consists of the three bells cast by Bachert in Heilbronn in 1949. The prayer bell has the striking tone g ', a diameter of 108.2 cm and a weight of 774 kg. The cross and arbitrary bell has the striking note b ', a diameter of 90.4 cm and a weight of 470 kg. The third bell strikes c '', is 79.6 cm in diameter and weighs 309 kg.
