The Martinsturm , also known as Mertensturm , is a medieval defense tower of the listed city ​​fortifications of the city of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

The tower is located in the southern part of the old city fortifications of the historic Quedlinburger Neustadt, at the southern end of the Damm street. The Mühlgraben flows northeast of the tower .

History and architecture

The Martinsturm was built as a semicircular shell tower. The tower is therefore open to the north on the city side. The tower served, together with the originally on the other side of the Mühlgraben, but not preserved, Mummental Tower , the defense of the weak point in the city fortifications formed by the flow of the Mühlgraben. Only a stump of the tower has survived, which was included in the design of the park of the senior citizens' residential complex at Heiligegeiststrasse 10 to the south .
