Martyn Poliakoff
Sir Martyn Poliakoff , FRS, CBE (born December 16, 1947 ) is a British chemist. Since 1979 he has been teaching at the University of Nottingham , where he researches the chemical applications of supercritical fluids with a focus on green chemistry . Poliakoff gained popularity outside of his field of expertise through Brady Haran's video series Periodic Videos (originally The Periodic Table of Videos ) , which has been published on YouTube since 2008 .
He is the brother of the playwright Stephen Poliakoff .
Scientific career
Poliakoff studied at King's College , Cambridge , where he received his bachelor's degree in 1969 and his doctorate in 1973. The topic of his dissertation, supervised by Jim Turner , was the matrix isolation of large molecules.
Since 1972 he has been a Researcher / Senior Research Officer for Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne . In 1979 he moved to Nottingham University as a lecturer , where he was promoted to Reader in 1985 and Professor of Chemistry in 1991.
