Marx Rootschilt Tillermann is a band from Saarland , which also likes to call itself the singin 'band . Their music is in the range of blues, jazz and folk, often arranged sparingly, at times also a cappella .

Band history

Michael Marx and Gerdi Rootschilt founded the band in 1974. First appearances followed with songs by Crosby, Stills & Nash , Bob Dylan , Eric Clapton and first own songs. Hubi Tillermann joined in 1975 and the first LP productions followed under the band name Marx Rootschilt Tillermann . With Amby Schillo (from 1981) and Robby Jost (from 1989) the band developed into a quintet.

A highlight of the band was the chart placement of the song Colors of my Heart from the CD The Singin 'Band in 1991 , which finally led to the award of the Golden Europe 1991 for the best young band . In April 1993 Hubi Tillermann left the band and emigrated to Ireland. After 18 years in Ireland, he returned to the band in 2011.

With the touring program The Songs of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young , the band took up their own early years again after more than 30 years with almost exclusively their own songs.

Songs, style

After the early years with interpretations of the songs by Crosby Stills & Nash, the band developed their own songs in the West Coast style. Over the next few years the band transformed into a folk and pop vocal formation. The style of their own songs is in the areas of blues, jazz and folk. The songs are mostly carried by polyphonic harmonic singing. Around 1990 the a cappella singing predominated in the band. In the following years this is supported more by the use of instruments, especially guitar and percussion.

The Saarland band also impresses in their public appearances with spontaneous, funny frowning (typical Saarland ironic allusions) and parodic insertions. The band describes itself somewhat ironically as the “oldest boy group in Germany that has remained young at heart”.

Except for a few cover versions, the LPs and CDs only contain original compositions, mostly by Marx and / or Amby. With a few exceptions, the lyrics also come from band members.
