MaryEllen Odell

MaryEllen Odell (* 1961 in Carmel , New York ) is an American politician . She is a member of the Republican Party and since November 11, 2011 "County Executive" of Putnam County , New York State.

Life

MaryEllen Odell grew up in the small town of Carmel, north of New York City . In 2010, she ran as a Republican candidate in the elections to the "County Executive" of Putnam County, but in the election she was defeated by her opponent, Senator Vincent Leibell. In December 2010, Leibell was sentenced to one year and nine months in prison for corruption , so he did not take office. In November 2011 MaryEllen Odell finally won the new election, on November 11, 2011 she was sworn in in her office. In November 2014, Odell was re-elected.

Odell is considered conservative , she is a member of the Republican Party and is supported by the Independence Party of America and the Conservative Party of New York State , among others . She is particularly committed to veterans and opposes the legalization of cannabis . In 2007 Odell was named an Honorary Veteran by the Putnam County Joint Veterans Council.
