Mary Michailidou

Mary or Maria Michailidou (also: Michaelidou , Greek Μαίρη Μιχαηλίδου ; * October 28, 1940 in Volos ) is a Greek archaeologist, art historian and professor at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens . She was Director General for Cultural Development in the Greek Ministry of Culture and sat on many governing bodies of Greek cultural institutions.

Michailidou has degrees in Archeology and History from the University of Athens, Art History and Archeology from the University of Toulouse and postgraduate degrees in Administration. She worked at the St. Raymond Archaeological Museum in Toulouse and was director of the National Gallery (Athens) from November 1989 to June 1991. She was responsible for the projects ' Silk Roads ' ( UNESCO ) and ' Mani - Cultural Itinerary' (1993/94) as well 'The Museum World' ( Goulandris - HornFoundation, endowment). She has participated in conferences on cultural heritage and art production around the world. Her research on the cultural field included the first programs in Greece with digital exhibitions and the creation of industrial archaeological archives.

In 1995 she was President of the Association of Greek Art Critics and Historians ( Aica Hellas). From 2008 she was a member of the jury for the European Capital of Culture for the European Council . She is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the House of European History . In 2010 she was on the jury for the selection of the Greek Holocaust Memorial .

She is not to be confused with Maria Michailidou, current director of the Ephorie Dodecanese and Rhodes.
