Maryam Blumenthal (born July 2, 1985 in Iran ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ).

Life

Maryam Blumenthal, born 1985 in Tehran (Iran), is a member of parliament for constituency 13, Alstertal / Walddörfer . She is married and has three children.

In 1987 she came to Germany as a refugee with her parents and brother.

She first grew up in Bad- Schwartau , then lived for a few years in Viersen (North Rhine-Westphalia) and has been from Hamburg since 1998 .

She lived in Steilshoop for 17 years before moving to Volksdorf in 2016 .

She has a master's degree in educational science, ethnology and psychology. She wrote her thesis on the subject of "Educational disadvantage among Hamburg schoolchildren".

She earned her second state examination as a teacher in vocational training in the subjects of education and economics / politics.

After a few years in the training of educators, Maryam Blumenthal switched to a district school in the 2019/2020 school year, where she is employed in the upper school.

Maryam Blumenthal developed her understanding of democracy in sports clubs. At a young age she was drawn to basketball, where she successfully made it into the 2nd regional league as a player. She has always taken on voluntary work and still trains a U10 children's team today and is a member of the supervisory board of Walddörfer SV.

From 2014 to 2019 Maryam Blumenthal was a member of the Wandsbek district assembly and parliamentary director in the parliamentary group of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen . As the group's social policy spokesperson, she sharpened the social profile of the Wandsbeck Greens.

In 2019 she led the district election campaign in Wandsbek as the top candidate and was elected group chairman by the new district parliamentary group after a terrific 26.3% result.

Since 2017 she has also been the district chairwoman of the Wandsbek district association of the Greens. In this role she has u. a. The red-green coalition agreement was largely negotiated in 2019.

Maryam Blumenthal is the first Greens who was both district and parliamentary group leader in a district.

In May 2020, she resigned from the district mandate.

Maryam Blumenthal has been a member of the Green parliamentary group since 2020. In June 2020 she was elected deputy group leader.

In the parliamentary group she is the spokesperson for sport and a spokesperson for vocational education / training.
