description

Maryfield House is located near Bressay Sound just a few hundred meters southeast of Gardie House . It is close to the island's ferry terminal and is clearly visible from Lerwick on the mainland across the street and from the ferry. Maryfield House was built in the early 19th century and is similar to Mizpah House further south . The two-story building with a loft has an L-shaped floor plan. It is made of quarry stone that is traditionally plastered with Harl . The lintels and building edges are set off with ashlar stones. The building ends with a slate-covered gable roof . The chimneys are made of plastered sandstone . The entrance area with a flat roof on the shorter west side does not correspond to the original condition and was added later. Maryfield House has a listed slipway with a boathouse right on the coast.
