Marzena Skotnicówna

Marzena Skotnicówna (born October 13, 1911 in Zakopane , † October 6, 1929 in the High Tatras ) was a Polish mountaineer .

Despite her young age, she was one of the leading mountaineers of her time and was a member of the section of the Akademicki Związek Sportowy in Krakow . Important first steps in her career include: the north face of Kozie Czuby (2263 m - 1929, together with Zofia Galicówna), the first ascent of the north face of the Small Peak Tower , the first ascent through the east face of Žltá stena (2169 m - 1929), the first ascent of the north face of the Gant group and the first ascent from the north of the Fünfseenspitze (2515 m - 1929).

She often climbed together with her younger sister Lida Skotnicówna , including the north-west face of the Mnich (2068 m). Together with her, she died on the mountain while trying to climb the south face of Zamarła Turnia (2129 m).

Marzena Skotnicówna was engaged to Julian Przyboś , who wrote the poem “Z Tatr. Pamięci taterniczki, która zginęła na Zamarłej Turni ” ( From the Tatras. In memory of a Tatra mountaineer who died on Zamarła Turnia ).

She is buried with her sister Lida in Zakopane in the new cemetery on Nowotarska Street.
