The Gemsenbastei ( Polish Kozie Czuby ) is a mountain in the Polish High Tatras with 2266 m in the Kozi Wierch massif . The border between the municipalities of Zakopane in the west and Bukowina Tatrzańska , specifically the district of Brzegi , in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in the Powiat Tatrzański district runs at the top .
Location and surroundings
Below the summit are the five lakes , specifically its hanging valley Dolina Pusta , in the east and Seealmtal , specifically its hanging valley Dolina Czarna Gąsienicowa , in the west.
The Gemsenbastei is separated from the summit of Kozi Wierch in the south by the Obere Gemsensharte mountain pass ( Kozia Przełęcz Wyżnia ) and from the northern summit Ödkarturm ( Zamarła Turnia ) by the Gemsenscharte mountain pass ( Kozia Przełęcz ).
etymology
The Polish name Kozie Czuby can be translated as chamois hill .
Flora and fauna
Despite its height, the chamois bastion has a colorful flora and fauna. Numerous plant species occur, especially high alpine flowers and grasses. In addition to insects and mollusks and birds of prey, marmots and chamois also visit the summit.

The chamois bastion is popular with hikers and climbers. It is located on the Orla Perć high path . So far, nine hikers have had fatal accidents at this point on the Höhenweg. It is considered a difficult part of the Höhenweg.
Routes to the summit
The Orla Perć high-altitude trail leads over the chamois bastion from the Riegelscharte ( Zawrat ) to the Kreuzsattel ( Krzyżne ).
- ▬ A red marked trail leads from Kasprowy Wierch over the peaks Beskid and Tower Middle ( Pośrednia Turnia ) and the mountain passes lilies saddle and Seealmsattel the Seealmspitze and on to the trail Orla Perć that at Mountain Pass bolt Charter begins. The Schronisko PTTK Murowaniec and Schronisko PTTK w Dolinie Pięciu Stawów Polskich mountain huts are suitable starting points for an ascent from the valleys.
