The Kozi Wierch (German: Gämsenberg) is a mountain in the High Tatras with an altitude of 2291  m npm and is located in Poland . This makes it the highest mountain that is entirely on Polish territory. The Orla Perć high trail leads over its summit .

Location and surroundings

Below the summit are two valleys, the Dolina Kozia in the west and the Dolina Pusta in the east.

The Gämsenberg is separated from the summit of the Ödkarturm ( Zamarła Turnia ) by the Kozia-Scharte ( Kozia Przełęcz ), from the western Black Wall ( Czarne Ściany ) by the mountain pass Przełączka nad Dolinką Buczynową . In between are the summits of Gemsenmauer ( Kozi Mur ) and Buchentalwarte ( Buczynowa Strażnica ). The Gemsenbastei summit ( Kozie Czuby ) is also located in the massif .

etymology

The German as the Polish name is derived from the chamois grazing on the slopes. The name Czarne Ściany (German: Black Walls ), which was based on its steep granite slopes, was also common. Meanwhile, another mountain nearby bears this name.

The Kozi Wierch is a popular summit with climbers. Its 250 meter high steep slopes have numerous climbing routes.

Hikers who dare to take the Orla Perć high-altitude path must go over the summit, which is the highest point of the high-altitude path. The summit can also be reached from the Fünfseental valley on a challenging hiking trail.
