Masanao Abe ( Japanese 安 部 正 真 , Abe Masanao ; * 1967 in Kanagawa Prefecture ) is a Japanese astronomer and asteroid explorer .
In 1990 he graduated from the University of Tokyo in physics, in 1994 he worked as an assistant at the Japanese Institute of Space and Astronautical Science and since 2008 he has been an associate professor at JAXA
He wore through the development of NIRS - spectrometer in the near infrared range of the space probe Hayabusa to the success of the mission.
His work led from 1994 to 1996 together with his colleagues Isao Satō and Hiroshi Araki to the discovery of a total of two asteroids.
The asteroid (8926) Abemasanao was named after him.
