(8926) Abemasanao is an asteroid of the outer main belt , of December 20, 1996 by the Japanese amateur astronomers Takao Kobayashi on Oizumi Observatory ( IAU code 411) in Oizumi in Gunma Prefecture was discovered.

He was named on 10 November 2003 after the Japanese astronomers Masanao Abe (born 1967), who with the development of NIRS - IR - spectrometer to the success of the space probe Hayabusa contributed.

The asteroid belongs to the Themis family, a group of asteroids named after (24) Themis .
