Massalski
Massalski , in the female form Massalska , is the name of a Polish-Lithuanian noble family of Ruthenian origin.
The Massalskis are descendants of Mstislaw Mikhailowitsch, Prince of Karachev , a son of Michael von Tschernigow . Initially residing in the Grand Duchy of Moscow in Mossalsk in the Principality of Chernigov , part of the family moved to the area of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania , where they initially lived as middle-class aristocrats. From the 17th century , the Massalskis held higher and higher offices, such as the starosts and voivods , and were able to assert themselves as a family of magnates . During this time, the sex also combined with the Tyszkiewicz , Pac and the Oginski .
