Maszewo ( German Messow ) is a village in the Powiat Krośnieński of the Lubusz Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the rural community of the same name with 2812 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2019).
history
Sorbian was also spoken in the area around Messow until the 18th century . The area formed the northeastern branch of the Sorbian language area and its only part on the right bank of the Oder. In the church town of Schönfeld, many older residents still spoke Sorbian in 1740.
After the end of the Second World War , the place was taken over by the Potsdam Agreement in Polish administration and the entire German population was expelled. Since then the place has been called Maszewo .
