Mathias Christian Petersen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mathias Christian Petersen (born April 14, 1809 in Garding , Eiderstedt ; † September 20, 1890 ibid) was a Schleswig-Holstein farmer, merchant and elevation officer and briefly a member of the Reichstag of the German Empire .

Life

Petersen was a farm owner, farmer and merchant in Garding. From 1847 to 1880 he was Pfennigmeister ( levy officer and accounting officer) for the western part of the Eiderstedt peninsula.

In the election for the first Reichstag of the German Reich in March 1871 , Petersen won the mandate in the constituency of Schleswig-Holstein 4 ( Tondern , Husum , Eiderstedt ) as a candidate for the National Liberal Party . Petersen's election was declared invalid on March 25, 1871 by the majority in the Reichstag. The reason for the cancellation of Petersen's election was that due to the strong ice drift in the North Sea, the residents of the Halligen had neither heard of the election nor could they cast their votes. The by-election in June 1871, for which Petersen no longer stood, was won by Peter Wilhelm Forchhammer from the German Progressive Party .
