Mathias Hietz
Mathias Hietz (* 1923 in Reisenberg , Lower Austria ; † May 30, 1996 in Bad Vöslau ) was an Austrian sculptor. He was the initiator of the Lindabrunn sculpture symposium and worked in stone, wood and metal.
Life
Mathias Hietz attended elementary school in Reisenberg and then the community school in Gramatneusiedl , after which he learned the carpentry trade . After this training he was a soldier in World War II . The war experiences influenced him deeply, which is why the apocalyptic rider is a recurring theme in Hietz's work. After the end of the war he studied at the Salzburg School of Applied Arts and from 1947 to 1953 at the University of Applied Arts Vienna , where he graduated as an academic sculptor.
After graduating as a sculptor, he received scholarships abroad in Paris , Rome , London and Egypt .
In 1967, at the suggestion of Karl Prantl, he founded the Lindabrunn Sculpture Symposium , which took place annually until 1997. He was a sculptor at numerous international symposia, such as in Mauthausen , Vancouver in Canada , Suwako and Hagi in Japan . He participated in the Forma Viva sculpture symposium in Portorož in Slovenia , in the Villány sculpture symposium in Hungary and in Acolman in Mexico .
Hietz was vice-president and exhibition director of the Vienna Künstlerhaus and chairman of the Federal Conference of Fine Artists in Austria.
