Mathias Lessort (born September 29, 1995 in Fort-de-France ) is a French basketball player .

career

Born in the French overseas territory of Martinique , Lessort moved to the junior division of the first division club Élan Sportif Chalonnais at the age of 15 . In the 2014/15 season he made his debut on the club's professional team, and in 2016 he moved to JSF Nanterre within the French premier league . There Lessort took a further development step and scored an average of 10.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per encounter in 34 league appearances during the 2016/17 season. With Nanterre he won the FIBA Europe Cup this season . In the North American NBA's draft process in 2017, the Philadelphia 76ers secured the rights to the French in the second selection round (50th place). However, Lessort stayed in Europe and played for the Serbian top club Red Star Belgrade in the 2017/18 season . In Belgrade he drew attention to himself in particular with his powerful and energetic style of play. With the Red Star he also took part in the EuroLeague and scored an average of 8.5 points and 5.7 rebounds in 30 missions.

In the summer break of 2018 he was signed by the Spanish ACB club Unicaja Málaga . He came to an average of 8.8 points in 34 ACB main round encounters in the 2018/19 season and collected an average of 5.4 rebounds per game. At the beginning of August 2019 he was signed by the German Bundesliga club FC Bayern Munich .

National team

With the French U20 national team, he took part in the European championship tournaments of this age group in 2014 and 2015. In 2018 he played his first international match for the men's national team. At the 2019 World Cup , he won the bronze medal with the team.
