Mathias Rotenburger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mathias Rotenburger (* 1600 in Salzburg ; † March 3, 1668 ibid) worked in the Prince Archbishopric of Salzburg and in Linz as an organ builder . 1661–1668 he was court organ maker in the Prince Archdiocese of Salzburg.

Life

Mathias Rotenburger learned the organ-making trade from his father Leopold . After his apprenticeship he delivered an early, larger piece of journeyman, but later only smaller jobs. He was probably in the shadow of his brother Paul all his life . He may have temporarily operated his workshop in Linz, since he was based there by 1630 at the latest. After the death of his brother Paul Rotenburger in 1661 he took over his workshop at Linzergasse 27. He died at the age of 68 on March 3, 1668 and was buried two days later in the cemetery of St. Peter .
