Mathilde Freiin von Freytag-Loringhoven (born October 30, 1860 in Copenhagen ; † December 1941 in Weimar ) worked as a painter , graphic artist , art critic and journalist .

Life

Mathilde von Freytag-Loringhoven studied from 1879 at the Weimar Art Academy under Theodor Hagen , Max Thedy and Leopold von Kalckreuth . As the only student of Karl Buchholz , she remained a traditionalist representative of late impressionism .

As a feature editor and chairwoman of the art commission of the Weimar municipal council, she was one of the main opponents of the Bauhaus and the avant-garde in Weimar.
