Mathilde Hirsch
Mathilde Hirsch (born May 22, 1882 in Friedrichshafen , † October 12, 1952 in Lynch , Nebraska , USA) was Prioress General of the Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing from 1933 to 1947 .
Life
Mathilde Hirsch joined the Congregation of the Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing in 1901. There she was novice master from 1911 to 1916 , then cellarer , 1919 to 1921 subprioress and from 1921 to 1925 again novice master. Commissioned in 1925 to manage the branch in Wŏnsan , Korea , she became prioress there in 1927 . In 1933 she was elected Superior General. Because of the threat of arrest by the National Socialists, she had to leave Germany in 1940 and went to Norfolk in the American state of Nebraska. From there she headed the worldwide active congregation, whose German motherhouse was in Tutzing, until 1947 1941 was confiscated by the authorities.
In 1947 she was elected Prioress of Norfolk by the General Chapter , where she died in 1952 of complications from cancer.
