Mathilde von Spanheim

Mathilde von Spanheim († December 13, 1160 or 1161), also known as Mathilde von Kärnten , came from the noble family of Spanheimers and was the daughter of Duke Engelbert II. Von Spanheim from Carinthia and his wife Uta von Passau, daughter of Count Ulrich von Passau . She was the mother of Queen Adela of France .

Nothing is known about Mathilde's life except for her descent and courtship. She was born as one of six children of Engelbert II von Spanheim and Uta von Passau. Mathilde was the couple's only daughter.

On the Diet of King Lothar III. In Regensburg , in November 1125, emissaries from Count Theobald IV of Champagne came with Norbert von Xanten to woo Mathilde, the daughter of Engelbert, the brother of the local bishop Hartwig I.
