Mathis Giger (* February 1568 Basel ; † 1640/41 ibid) was a Swiss cabinet maker and picture carver.

Life

Mathis Giger the Younger was the youngest son of the Pfullendorf carpenter Mathis Giger the Elder . Like his two older brothers Conrad and Leonhard, he learned to be a carpenter. In 1596 he acquired the guild rights of the Basel spinning weather guild . In 1598, together with Hans Walter , Franz Pergo and his brother Conrad Giger, he created the “head stalls” for the Basel cathedral . In 1615/16 he created the paneling and door court for the rear council chamber in the Basel town hall (today in the tower room). From 1625 he was apparently no longer active in the profession he had learned.
