Matilda White Riley

Matilda White Riley (born April 19, 1911 in Boston , † November 14, 2004 in Brunswick, Maine ) was an American sociologist who did research on the sociology of old age . In 1986 she held the 77th presidency of the American Sociological Association .

After graduating from Harvard University , Riley spent a long time in market research and science organization. Later she turned to the sociology of old age. She taught as a professor at Rutgers University and Bowdoin College . In 1987 she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences , and in 1994 to the National Academy of Sciences .
