Matin Qaim

Matin Qaim (born December 20, 1969 in Mainz ) is a German professor of agricultural economics .

Life

Qaim studied agricultural sciences at the Universities of Bonn and Kiel . After graduating in Kiel in 1996, he began his doctoral thesis in agricultural economics , with which he received his doctorate in 2000 at the University of Bonn under Joachim von Braun . As an Emmy Noether scholar , he completed his habilitation there in 2003 in agricultural and development economics . Prior to that, from 2001 to 2003, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of California, Berkeley, USA, where he worked under David Zilberman . In 2004 the University of Hohenheim appointed him a professorship for international agricultural trade and the world food industry. In 2007 he followed a call to the University of Göttingen .

Qaim is married and has two daughters.

Memberships

In 2018 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . Qaim is u. a. Member of the Life Sciences Commission of the National Academy of Science Leopoldina , the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen and the Golden Rice Humanitarian Board.
