Matjaž Mlakar (born April 13, 1981 in Sevnica , Yugoslavia ) is a Slovenian handball player . He is 1.89 m tall.
Mlakar, who plays for the Slovak top club HT Tatran Prešov and plays for the Slovenian national team, is mostly used as a circular runner.
Matjaž Mlakar started playing handball in his hometown. He later made his debut for RK Velenje in the Slovenian first division. With the men from northeast Slovenia, he never managed to get past serial champion RK Celje ; In 2004, however, Mlakar was committed by the same. With Celje he won the Slovenian championship in 2005 and the double of championship and cup in 2006. In the same year he returned to Velenje, where he won the runner-up championship in 2007 and made it to the cup final. In 2009 he won the championship again. He then moved to RK Koper , with whom he won the double in 2011 . In 2012 he went to RK Maribor Branik . Since January 2014 he has been playing for HT Tatran Prešov , with whom he won the Slovak championship in 2014.
Matjaž Mlakar took part in the 2007 World Cup in Germany with Slovenia and finished in 10th place. At the European Championships in Norway in 2008 , he retired with his country after the main round.
