history
In the course of a basic exchange between Countess Hemma von Gurk and the Salzburg Archbishop Balduin (1041-1060), the Archbishopric of Salzburg acquired rich holdings on the Save. Lichtenwald / Sevnica probably goes back to a planned foundation under Archbishop Eberhard II (1200–1246). The place was first mentioned in a document in 1256 and administered by a Salzburg bailiff in 1275. In 1322 Lichtenwald / Sevnica was already referred to as a market with its own court in the castle. At that time, the rulership comprised around 50 villages with numerous farms that had to pay land taxes in cash and in kind to the Salzburg administrator. Archbishop Eberhard III. (1406–1427) issued the same legal system for Lichtenwald in 1408 that had been in effect for Rann / Brežice since 1353 . During the Hungarian War, Lichtenwald was occupied by the troops of King Matthias Corvinus , under whose protection the Archbishop of Salzburg, Berhard von Rohr , had gone. King Maximilian I conquered Lichtenwald in 1490 and returned it to Salzburg four years later. Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau (1587-1612) sold the Lichtenwald rule in 1595, together with other foreign possessions, to Innocent Moscon zum Thurm am Hardt and Gurkfeld for 33,000 pfennigs.
The Sevnica castle complex is worth seeing. The castle was probably built in the 14th century. Today the facility is used as a museum. Sevnica is located on the main railway line Ljubljana-Zagreb ; From Sevnica to Trebnje there is a local, 31 km long railway line.
