The Matney peak is 1,810 m high and mostly ice-free mountain in the West Antarctic Ellsworth Land . In the Heritage Range of the Ellsworth Mountains , it looms near the center of a series of peaks on the eastern flank of the Webster Glacier .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it based on its own surveys and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1961 to 1966. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1966 after William R. Matney, who participated in Operation Deep Freeze in 1966 for the Fuel supply was responsible.
