Matthew David "Matt" Butcher (born May 14, 1997 in Portsmouth ) is an English football player . The defensive midfielder , who can also be used as a central defender , came from the youth work of the first division AFC Bournemouth .

Career

After Butcher had joined the youth department of the AFC Bournemouth at the age of 13 , he went through the age group selections up to the U-21 of the "Cherries" in the following years. His learned position was mostly in the defensive midfield and he gave Frank Lampard as his role model, whom he tried to emulate from childhood. On April 1, 2015, Butcher received a one-year professional contract alongside three other youth players ( Joe Quigley , Jordan Lee and Jack Simpson ). He made his first team debut on August 27, 2015 when he came on as a substitute in the 4-0 league cup win over Hartlepool United . On January 9, 2016, the FA Cup made their first appearance in the starting line-up, which ended with a 2-1 win over Birmingham City . He had previously been in Non-League section on loan in the Conference South at Gosport Borough (February 2015) and the end of March 2015, a month in the Southern League at Poole Town collected (eight league games) match practice.

The next loan station after his Bournemouth appearances was the fifth division FC Woking from the end of February 2016 . Since Butcher knew how to convince there, the period initially set for one month was extended to the end of the 2015/16 season. In the following season 2016/17 he went on to the fourth division club Yeovil Town and the first six months turned into a whole season with 34 league games, in which he and his team secured relegation .

In January 2020 it was awarded to the Scottish first division club FC St. Johnstone .
