Matt Devlin

Matt Devlin (born April 30, 1950 in Ardboe , County Tyrone , Northern Ireland , † December 28, 2005 in Ardboe) was a member of the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) and took part in the hunger strikes in 1980/1981 .

Devil was the second born in a family of six. His parents were not Republicans and his father died in 1973. He went to Rock Primary School . In 1967 he took a job on a farm and he also worked in England for a year. When he returned to Ireland, he went back to work as a farmer. Devlin played an active role in the Ardboe Gaelic Football Club , where he was elected president in 1979 while in prison. Around 1974 he supported the local IRA and was accepted into this organization in 1976. Matt Devlin has been involved in numerous attacks on British military forces and the Royal Ulster Constabulary . Devlin was arrested in February 1977 after carrying out a failed attack on British soldiers with Paddy Quinn and another IRA member. As a result, he was sentenced in October 1977 to seven years' imprisonment and imprisonment in the H block . During his imprisonment he took part in the Blanket Protest and the Dirty Protest and in both hunger strikes in 1980/1981.

He played an essential role in building the Sinn Féin in Westmeath until his death in late 2005 and took part in a local election as a candidate for the Sinn Féin in 2004, where he received 4.62% of the vote.
