Matt Nelson (saxophonist)

Matthew "Matt" Nelson (* around 1980 in the San Francisco Bay Area ) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( tenor saxophone , electronics, composition ).

Live and act

Nelson studied at the Oberlin Conservatory (Ohio) with Gary Bartz and Paul Cohen. After his return to the Bay Area he worked in the local music scene, a. a. in the experimental pop band tUnE-yArDs , who also made recordings ( whokill ). In 2010 he moved to New York and played in the formations GRID, Elder Ones, Premature Burial (with Peter Evans and Dan Peck ), Skeletons and in Weasel Walter Large Ensemble. He is also a member of the tenor saxophone quintet Battle Trance (album Palace of Wind , 2014). He released a solo album of electro-acoustic music under his own name, Lower Bottoms (2014). Currently (2018) he plays in the trio GRID with Tim Dahl (bass) and Nick Podgurski (drums).
