Matt Shumway
Matt Shumway (born 1978 in the United States ) is an American animation supervisor who works for Industrial Light & Magic .
Life
Matt Shumway began his animator career in 2002 as an assistant on the cartoon series Larry Boy . As an employee at Rhythm & Hues , he worked as a draftsman and animator for, among others, X-Men 2 (2003), Garfield - The Movie (2004) and its sequel Garfield 2 (2006), The Incredible Hulk (2008). He received an Annie Award nomination for his animation of the lion Aslan in The King of Narnia (2005) . As part of the effects team for The Golden Compass , he created a series of talking animals. One of his last works for Rhythm & Hues was Life of Pi: Schiffbruch mit Tiger , in which he and his team animated the eponymous tiger Richard Parker and for which he received his first Annie Award.
In 2013 he switched to Industrial Light & Magic. There he initially worked as the main animator on the film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014). His subsequent work on The Revenant (2015) earned him his second Annie Award. He was also nominated together with Richard McBride , Jason Smith and Cameron Waldbauer for an Oscar in the category “ Best Visual Effects ” at the 2016 Academy Awards.
