Jason Smith (special effects artist)
Jason Smith (* 20th century ) is a special effects artist who was nominated for an Oscar in 2016 for Best Visual Effects .
Life
He attended Brigham Young University's Computer Science Program. During this time he created, among other things, makeup effects for university productions. After graduating, he worked as a software developer at Saffire, Inc.
In 2001 he started working as a technical assistant at Industrial Light & Magic before becoming technical director for creatures in 2003. There he was involved in films such as Terminator 3 - Rise of the Machines , Transformers and Pacific Rim .
At the 2016 Academy Awards , along with Matt Shumway , Richard McBride and Cameron Waldbauer, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for his work on The Revenant .
