Matt Stinson (born September 9, 1992 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian football player . The midfielder last played for Toronto FC in Major League Soccer .

Career

After Stinson had played for various Canadian clubs in his childhood and youth, he moved to the youth academy of Toronto FC , the Toronto FC Academy , at the age of 16 to receive professional training there. He was able to convince there with good performances and was appointed team captain of the academy team. In 2010 he left the academy to study at Winthrop University in South Carolina . There he played for the university's soccer team and continued to draw attention to himself through good performances.

In early 2011, Stinson traveled to a training camp in Turkey with the Toronto FC professional team . Due to his performance in training camp and further pre-season, Stinson was finally offered a professional contract with Toronto FC, which he signed on March 17, 2011.

His first professional game made Stinson on June 25, 2011 in the league game of Major League Soccer against Real Salt Lake , when he came on for Javier Martina . In total, he came to 13 missions in the 2011 season , five of them from the start. He was preparing a gate. He was also featured in six games in the 2011/12 CONCACAF Champions League , in four of which he was on the grid.

In the 2012 season, Stinson only played four league games, in the 2013 season Stinson was no longer used. At the end of the 2013 season, Stinson left Toronto FC and initially turned his back on professional sports to concentrate on his studies at York University in Toronto . He is active for the university's selection team.

National teams

Stinson also played for the U-20 and U-23 national teams of Canada. He made his debut for the Canadian senior team on January 29, 2013, when he was substituted on in a friendly against the United States . Stinson was also scheduled for the qualifying games for the 2014 World Cup , but was unable to take part due to injury.
