Matteo Rosselli

Matteo Rosselli (born August 8, 1578 in Florence , † January 18, 1650 ) was an Italian painter.

Life

At the age of nine he was entrusted by his father to the artistic direction of Gregorio Pagani (1558–1605), who let him work especially on works by Andrea del Sarto . Rosselli became Pagani's most important collaborator, then studied the works of Raffael and Polidoro da Caravaggio in Rome . After Pagani's death in 1605 he inherited his studio. Baldassare Franceschini (il Volterrano), Lorenzo Lippi , Francesco Furini, Giovanni da San Giovanni (Giovanni Mannozzi) and Jacopo Vignali (1592–1664) count among his numerous students . Rosselli himself worked a lot for the Medici grand ducal family. He is buried in the church of San Marco in Florence.
