Matteo Sereni (born February 11, 1975 in Parma ) is an Italian football goalkeeper .

Player career

Sampdoria Genoa

Matteo Sereni comes from the youth of Sampdoria Genoa , where he also took his first steps in professional football. In his first season as a professional player he was awarded to the lower class club AC Crevalcore. He then returned to Sampdoria as the second keeper for the next two years, but did not get more than nine missions.

For this reason, Sereni was awarded to Piacenza Calcio for the 1996/97 season , where he was used as a regular goalkeeper in all games and that confidently held the class. In the following year, he missed the season goal relegation with FC Empoli as a knocked-down bottom of the table. Since Sampdoria was also relegated, Sereni went into Serie B , where he had a regular place for the two years from 1991 to 2001 and only failed to play once.

Ipswich Town

Sereni was so convincing at Sampdoria that he was signed by the English first division club Ipswich Town for the club's record transfer fee of € 7.5 million. After a year in which he played regularly, however, the relegation was certain. For the 2002/03 season , Sereni was loaned to the Italian first division club Brescia Calcio until he finally left the English after the season and the missed rise of Ipswichs.

The last few years

From 2003 to 2007 Sereni was under contract with Lazio Rome , where he could never really prevail, although he played both games in the 2004 final of the Coppa Italia against Juventus Turin . For the second half of the 2005/06 season he was loaned to FBC Treviso , with whom he was relegated last. Since he did not appear in the 2006/07 season and even the then 43-year-old goalkeeper Marco Ballotta was preferred to him, he was allowed to leave the club in the summer of 2007 and replaced Christian Abbiati with first division rivals FC Turin , where he is now has a regular seat.
