Matthew Reimer

Matthäus Reimer (born September 1, 1581 in Königsberg (Prussia) , † August 29, 1646 ibid) was a German philologist.

Life

Reimer was the son of the Königsberg mayor Matthäus Reimer (* around 1523 - † 14 July 1594) and his wife Elisabeth Löbbin (* around 1562 - † 10 May 1629, was married to the Chancellor Andreas Fabricius for the second time). After initial training in his hometown, he moved to the University of Wittenberg on October 9, 1604 . Here he completed a degree in philosophical sciences. At that time, Friedrich Taubmann taught poetry, Martin Helwig in ethics, Lorenz Rhodomann in history, Jakob Martini in logic, in mathematics Tobias Tandler and Melchior Jöstel , in physics Georg Wecker and above all in Greek Erasmus Schmidt .

Guided by these university teachers, he acquired the academic degree of Magister in Philosophical Sciences on September 22nd, 1607 under the Dean's Office of Schmidt. After further studies he returned to Königsberg, where he became a teacher at the pedagogy in 1612 and took over the management of the facility as an archipagogue in 1614 . After the dissolution of the same in 1616 he became professor of the Greek language at the University of Königsberg . He held this office until the end of his life.

In addition, he had also become a councilor in Königsberg. He also took part in the organizational tasks of the Königsberg University. In the winter semester of 1623/24 he took over the rector's office of the Alma Mater for the first time and in the following semester, in accordance with the university's statutes, he acted as vice-rector under the rector's office of the Baron in Lindholm and Vogelwick Casimir von Guldenstern . He also held the post of rector in the summer semesters of 1630, 1638 and 1646. He passed away during his last term in office.
