The Evangelical Lutheran St. Matthew's Church is in Barendorf in the Lower Saxony district of Lüneburg .

location

The Matthäuskirche is located north of a residential area surrounded on two sides by a forest. To the northwest across the street is a cemetery and the local cemetery .

Architecture and equipment

The modern church building was built between 1964 and 1965 and has a polygonal floor plan. A roof turret , also covered with copper, is attached to the copper roof . The church consists of a small entrance area, a small event room and the worship room. The facade is made of brownish bricks and contains a large number of square windows of different sizes. In the area of ​​the altar there is a larger window front with eight windows.

The walls of the worship room are painted white. In front of the windows of the window front in the altar area, stained glass were installed after extensive renovations of the church in 1998. These contain rectangles in the colors white, blue and turquoise as well as transparent glass surfaces. The hall church has a gallery on which the church organ is located.

A larger cross attached to the wooden ceiling hangs above the altar. It is set with 24 amber , which should serve as reference points for refugees from the eastern regions .
