Matthew "Matt" White (born February 22, 1974 in Sydney ) is a former Australian cyclist and athletic director .

Career

Matthew White began his career in 1996 with Heiko Salzwedel in the Giant-Australian Institute of Sport Cycling Team. After two years he switched to Amore & Vita , where he drove for a year. He then drove for two years at Vini Caldirola . In 2001 he then joined the US Postal racing team .

In 1999 White won a stage of the Tour de Suisse and in 2002 a stage of the Tour of Catalonia . After three years in the USA, he went to the French Équipe Cofidis . In 2005 he won a stage of the Tour Down Under and took part in the Tour de France . In 2006 and 2007 he drove for the ProTeam Discovery Channel . He ended his racing career after the 2007 season.

From 2008 Matt White was the athletic director of the US team Garmin-Chipotle . In January 2011 he was dismissed for violating the team's internal doping rules after the Tour Down Under . He also looked after the Australian national team. In 2012 he became the sporting director of the newly founded Orica GreenEdge team. After he confessed that he had used doping in his active driver days from 1998 , he offered the team his resignation, which was accepted by management. He was banned from the Australian Anti-Doping Authority for six months.
