Matthias Ank

Matthias Ank (* 1959 in Mannheim ) is a German church musician . He is currently working as " Lorenz Cantor" at St. Lorenz in Nuremberg .

Life

Matthias Ank studied church music in Heidelberg and in 1985 passed the church music " A-exam ". From 1986 to 1990 he worked as a cathedral organist and as assistant to the cathedral cantor at Braunschweig Cathedral , from 1991 as cantor and organist at the Johanniskirche in Hagen .

In 1996 Matthias Ank was appointed to Nuremberg as cantor and organist of St. Lorenz and has since been responsible for the music at the largest Protestant church in Bavaria. He leads the Bach choir , the St. Lorenz vocal ensemble, the “Lorenz Brass” brass ensemble and other project-related ensembles such as the Bach Cantata Choir. In 2000 Matthias Ank was awarded the title of Church Music Director.

In addition to paying special attention to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach , he regularly performs modern works, such as those by Moritz Eggert , Werner Heider , Stefan Hippe , Burkhard Kinzler, Marcus Maria Reißenberger, Martin Torp and Franz Waxman . Several compositions by contemporary composers were dedicated to him and premiered in St. Lorenz, such as the composition "Toccata and Blues" by W. Heider, a commission for the consecration of the Laurentius organ and the associated completion of the entire system in summer 2005. As part of the International Organ Week Matthias Ank regularly works as a conductor and organist in Nuremberg .
