Matthias Büger (born May 3, 1969 in Gießen ) is a German mathematician and politician ( FDP ). He was from 2009 to 2014 and has been a member of the Hessian state parliament since January 2019 .

Study and job

Büger studied mathematics with a minor in physics at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen from 1989 to 1994 , from which he graduated with a diploma. In 1995 he received his doctorate there with a topic on iteration theory ( function theory ) and then remained until 2000 as a research assistant at the University of Giessen, where he received his habilitation in 2005 with a thesis on reaction-diffusion equations. Büger worked as a mathematician in the technology department of Deutsche Bank in Eschborn near Frankfurt since 2000 .

Political career

Büger was a member of the Young Liberals (JuLis) from 1989 to 2005 and has been a member of the FDP since 1990. He has been a member of the FDP state board since 2003, is the district chairman of the FDP in the Lahn-Dill district and chairman of the FDP parliamentary group in the Lahn-Dill district and the FDP parliamentary group in Wetzlar. In the state elections in 2009 , he entered the 18th Hessian state parliament via his party's state list. He was spokesman for universities, research and technology for his parliamentary group, a member of the budget committee and deputy chairman of the committee for science and the arts. In the state elections in 2013 , the election result was insufficient for a return to the state parliament. In 2015, Büger ran for the office of Lord Mayor of Wetzlar to succeed Wolfram Dette . He received 15.2% in the direct election.

Since March 21, 2015 he has been the state treasurer of the FDP Hessen.

In the state elections in Hesse in 2018 , he moved into the state parliament via list position 8 of the FDP and was elected to the board of his parliamentary group. He is the spokesman for his group for universities, research and technology.

Private

Büger lives in Wetzlar , is married and has two children.
