Matthias Bonitz

Matthias Bonitz (born September 30, 1951 in Ellwangen / Jagst ) is a German double bass player and composer .

Matthias Bonitz studied from 1972 to 1978 at the Detmold University of Music with Walter Meuter . During his studies he worked with various chamber music ensembles such as German Bach Soloists ( Helmut Winschermann ), German Bach Orchestra ( Wilhelm Isselmann ), Detmold Chamber Orchestra ( Tibor Varga ), Detmold Wind Circle ( Jost Michaels ). For several years he played with the cellist Marcio Carneiro as a duo partner in the line-up of cello / double bass.

From 1978 to 2016 he was the double bass player in the "Westphalian Symphony Orchestra" in Recklinghausen (today "Neue Philharmonie Westfalen"). In his teaching activities he taught at the Grabbe Gymnasium in Detmold and at the music school in Lüdinghausen . He supervised a teaching position for double bass at the HfM Detmold / Dortmund department (1984–1996) and since 1993 at the TU Dortmund . From 1975 to 1986 he was a lecturer at "Junge Sinfoniker OWL", Bielefeld . In the 1990s he was a lecturer for a working phase at the Federal Youth Orchestra for the double bass group.

In addition to his orchestral work and teaching, he founded and designed the “ Alte Post ” concert series in Drensteinfurt between 1985 and 1992, where he also played the double bass. From 2014 to 2016 he designed the open air concerts as part of the “Droste Days” Burg Hülshoff and since 2014 the concept and moderation of the “Classic Open Air Concert” he founded as part of the “Drensteinfurter Kultursommer”.

Compositional creation

Bonitz also works as a composer. The focus of his compositions are poetry settings (works by Ingeborg Bachmann , Annette von Droste Hülshoff , Hermann Hesse , Hans Arp , Yaha Kemal) and tone poems such as “Le Taureau” after Picasso or “ Siddhartha ” after Hermann Hesse. Recordings of his works have been released by the label ebs and Encora . A larger part of his compositions were published on the MusicaNeo platform .
