Matthias Bork (artist name MABO ; born January 12, 1962 in Bingen am Rhein ) is a German- Canadian artist , primarily a painter but also a sculptor and author. He is known under the stage name MABO, especially in the Niagara region of Ontario.

Life

Matthias Bork comes from a Bingen painters family that has been running a painting business in Bingen for three generations. After training in the bakery and confectionery trade, Bork emigrated to Canada at the age of 21, where he lived in Kitchener Ontario for a few years , but then chose the Niagara region as his home. MABO lives and works in Saint Catharines , Ontario, Canada, partly also in Punta de Mita , Mexico.

Artistic career

His artistic training began in his childhood with his father, as well as well-known artists and schools at home and abroad. One of his most important teachers and mentors was the Canadian artist Paul Gosen.

Bork has been creating his works in his studio in Ontario since the mid-1980s. Bork calculates his entire artistic output over the past 45 years with over 1200 works (as of May 2015). His style elements also include mixed media; when looking at the paintings, influences, inspirations from abstract , pop art and artists such as Picasso , Gosen and Chihuly can be recognized. The Canadian artist Paul Gosen remarked about MABO: "His works are unmistakable and bear his individual, unmistakable artistic signature". Gosen also writes: “An expert in colors, MABO has embraced modernity with its own original mix of style motifs. Roundness and volume are indicated by fluctuations in the color intensity. The combination of active contours, depth and colorful surfaces gives a surging rhythm to the art of MABO. He has a strong affinity for coherent two-dimensional patterns with an emphasis on spatial interaction. "

The freelance artist has received numerous awards for his artistic creations, including an honorary doctorate in fine arts from Emill Brunner University in Brazil and personal praise from Romina Power .

MABO sells its art in Canada, the USA, South America and Europe. His works are also represented in the public sector, including the “Memorias de Matisse” (2004), which is located in the entrance foyer of the city council of Thorold (Canada).
