Matthias Ducci (born January 27, 1969 in Wilhelmshaven ) is a German chemistry teacher and university professor . Since 2004 he has been professor of chemistry and its didactics at the Karlsruhe University of Education .

biography

From 1990 to 1996 Matthias Ducci studied mathematics and chemistry for teaching at high schools at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg and graduated with the first state examination. Then he was a doctoral candidate in Walter Jansen's group (University of Oldenburg) and received his doctorate in 2000 as a Dr. rer. nat. In his dissertation , Ducci dealt with the development of model experiments to simulate the conduction of excitation in nerve fibers as well as with periodic and chaotic oscillation phenomena on metal electrodes. In 2002 he completed his legal clerkship with the 2nd state examination. Afterwards Ducci was till 2004 teacher working at the Cooperative Comprehensive School Rastede and as a lecturer at the University of Oldenburg. Since 2004 he has held a professorship for chemistry and its didactics at the Karlsruhe University of Education . He is also the managing director of the chemistry teacher training center of the Society of German Chemists (GDCh) in Karlsruhe.

Work and research areas

  • The main research area is the development and testing of experiments and concepts for everyday, problem-oriented and experimental chemistry classes
  • Curricular innovation research: opening up new areas of research and science for chemistry lessons
  • Development and implementation of courses in advanced and advanced training for chemistry teachers (approx. 40 courses per year)
  • School laboratory : “Karlsruhe Children's Laboratory” (since 2006) and “Make Science!” (Since 2011). Both projects are scientifically supported.

Awards

  • Awarding of the Manfred and Wolfgang Flad Prize by the Chemistry Teaching Section of the Society of German Chemists, together with Marco Oetken (1999)
  • Science Award Weser-Ems of the Oldenburgische Landesbank for the dissertation (2000)
  • Award from the Society of German Chemists for the best 2nd state examination in chemistry and another subject in 2002 in the Weser-Ems administrative region (2003)
  • University teaching award of the PH Karlsruhe for the event "Chemical Aspects of Subject Education - the Karlsruhe Children's Laboratory (Kila Project)" (2007)
  • Chemistry literature prize of the Association of Chemistry Teachers Austria (VCÖ) for the specialist article "Historical secret inks of the CIA" in the magazine "Chemie & Schule" (2014)

In 2019 he will give a plenary lecture at the GDCh-Wissenschaftsforum Chemie ( A “bear-strong” reduction - the reductive splitting of azo dyes ).

Publications

Matthias Ducci publishes in numerous national and international chemistry didactic journals. By October 2017 it had around 100 publications.
